The Egypt star played a pivotal role as Arne Slot's team twice came from behind to draw 3-3 with Newcastle. Salah set up Curtis Jones to equalise for the Reds following Alexander Isak's first-half opener. He then scored one of his own to pull his team level once again before firing in a second to put them ahead, only for Newcastle to earn a point with a late goal.

Salah has now scored and assisted in 37 games, breaking the previous record set by Wayne Rooney. Amazingly, with 277 Premier League appearances, he has played 214 fewer games than the ex-Manchester United and Everton striker, who played 491 top-flight matches.

Salah is now the Premier League's top scorer with 13 goals from 14 games, one more than Erling Haaland. Arsenal star Bukayo Saka is the only player who has made more assists than Salah.

Salah underlined his importance to Liverpool yet again with his display against Newcastle amid uncertainty around his future. The 32-year-old has suggested he will leave Anfield when his contract expires this summer and said he has not been offered an extension by the club.
