Paudie O’Connor has left Leeds United permanently after signing for Bradford City on a three-year deal.
O’Connor spent the back end of last season on loan at the Bantams linking up with Gary Bowyer once again after working with him previously at Blackpool.
Orta’s ineptitude
Victor Orta is often the subject of a lot of criticism from the Leeds fanbase, but even his biggest supporters have to admit he got this one wrong.
When the Irishman signed his new contract last summer the Spaniard said:
“We are really pleased to see Paudie sign a new deal at the club, he has huge potential and we hope he will be a key player for Leeds United for many years to come, not only is he a good footballer, he also has the desire and attitude needed to take him to the top. Paudie is keen to play games, as every hungry young footballer should, so we will now look to send him out on loan for the forthcoming season.”
Bad judge of talent
In light of this recent development, looking back at these comments doesn’t make Orta look like a footballing genius.
For him to say that O’Connor is on his way to the top only to be sold to a League Two team a year later shows that he may not be the best judge of talent, and that is a trait you certainly don’t want in the man in charge of transfers.
How are Leeds fans supposed to trust that he is bringing in the right players this summer when just 12 months ago he talked up the talents of a player who is set to play in the fourth tier of English football next season?
