When you’re battling to secure promotion to the Premier League, the one thing you can absolutely do without, is injuries. And in Sheffield Wednesday’s case, the one man who they arguably would not have wanted to suffer any kind of lay-off, is Steven Fletcher.

But in their clash against Brighton in the FA Cup on Saturday afternoon, the 32-year-old was stretchered off with what looked like a potentially serious injury. And although Garry Monk moved to play down any major concerns, he did concede that they would “have to see about the damage around the knee”.
And after seeing him being forced off after 55 minutes of the contest, Owls fans took to Twitter to voice their thoughts on the situation.
A few fans urged the club to act in the transfer market in response to Fletcher’s potential injury, with a couple of supporters calling on Dejphon Chansiri to splash the cash.
Some fans were very critical of Monk’s decision to play Fletcher in the first place, with one supporter in particular claiming that it was “absolutely ludicrous” to do so.
Whilst Monk confirmed that the x-ray delivered a promising initial prognosis, it still doesn’t paint the full picture as to the potential damage Fletcher may have suffered. And with promotion well and truly on the line, the Owls’ board desperately need to act accordingly, or else they risk seeing their campaign go up in smoke.
Meanwhile, Sheffield Wednesday’s chances of success this season could hinge upon doing this in January.
