Jurgen Klopp put his faith in Dejan Lovren against Manchester United last weekend and it would be fair to say that it didn’t pay off.
United aimed long diagonal kicks in the direction of the Croatian international wherever possible, confident that Romelu Lukaku had his number in the air.
That proved to be the case and it was the root of the two Marcus Rashford goals that won the match for the hosts. Even when it was clear that there was an issue, Lovren didn’t swap with central defensive partner Virgil Van Dijk or call for Emre Can to protect him.
It was a poor performance from the man valued at £15.3 by Transfermarkt and it made the exclusion of Joel Matip all the more mystifying. Nevertheless, Klopp’s side have a chance to cut the gap to second-placed Manchester United to just two point this weekend.
The Reds host Watford in the Premier League on the same day that Mourinho’s men host Brighton in the FA Cup quarter-finals and one big question for Klopp to answer is; Lovren or Matip?
We put that question to you and the result was overwhelmingly in Matip’s favour. Check out the full results below…
