Tottenham Hotspur boss Mauricio Pochettino has insisted that Vincent Janssen still has a future with the London club.
Janssen, 23, only scored six times in 35 appearances for Tottenham during the 2016-17 campaign following a move from Dutch outfit AZ last summer.
It has been claimed that Janssen turned down the chance to leave Spurs during the summer transfer window, which will see him ‘frozen out’ at Wembley this season.
Pochettino, however, has insisted that the Netherlands international has a future at Tottenham, despite being left out of the squad for the group stages of the Champions League.
Pochettino told reporters:
“Yes, of course. It is true, the next question is why is he not in the Champions League squad? We had only 17 places to include players. It is him and [Erik] Lamela [who miss out].
“In January we can check again and decide to see if or not we change the names in the squad. So yes, he has a future as a player here.”
West Bromwich Albion, Stoke City and Brighton & Hove Albion are all said to have made moves for Janssen in the summer, but the striker was not interested in a departure.
Janssen has fallen further down the pecking order at Wembley following the arrival of Fernando Llorente, with the striker rejecting Chelsea to join Spurs on transfer deadline day.
