Chelsea star Eden Hazard has indicated that he intends to stay at Stamford Bridge in an interview with the club’s official magazine.
What’s the latest?
Every summer, it seems that Hazard is linked to Spanish giants Real Madrid.
At the start of the month, The Sun reported that Madrid are willing to pay a world record £100m for Hazard’s signature.
His impressive form last season may have had fans worried that they would lose their playmaker.
However, Hazard’s latest remarks have suggested that he plans to continue playing at the West London outfit for the upcoming campaign.
He told Chelsea’s magazine:
“Hopefully next year it is the same, we win the league and then I win Player of the Year! Obviously winning the league is what we want most, and this award is just a bonus. We started this season well and we won the league but next year we have to work as hard as we have this season. We have to be ready every year at the same level to stay at the top.”
How important is it for Chelsea to keep him?
Manager Antonio Conte will be keen to strengthen his squad with new signings in order to maintain the Blues’ dominance in the Premier League.
However, keeping Hazard will be one of the most vital moments of their transfer window.
In truth, there has not been any serious indication from the Belgian that he intends to move on, but his fresh remarks will calm concern.
Last summer, some Chelsea supporters may not have been desperate for Hazard to stay after his disappointing performances in the 2015-16 season, but he was back to his best in the most recent campaign.
If the Blues want to become champions for two years running, they will need to make sure that Hazard is a pivotal part of it, and his claims suggest that he will be.
