Everton announced on their official website on Tuesday their 27-man squad for the group stages of the Europa League, and Toffees fans were particularly unhappy with one of the names on the list.
Midfielder Ross Barkley was named among the 27 players despite currently being injured, refusing to sign the new contract he had been offered during the summer and coming close to joining Chelsea on transfer deadline day.
In the end, the 23-year-old decided to reject the move and consider his future again during the January transfer window, when he will be fully fit again after suffering a torn hamstring.
Considering the Europa League group stages conclude in December, it is unclear whether Barkley will be fit enough to take part in any of the six matches and it will depend on how he recovers from the injury problem.
Everton supporters were quick to have their say on the news via social media, and many don’t understand why he has been named in the squad in the circumstances.
