Marcus Edwards is nearing a move from Tottenham Hotspur to Udinese, per TuttoUdinese.
What’s the word?
The attacking midfielder, long hyped as a jewel of Spurs’ academy, has struggled to live up to his billing.
Compared with Lionel Messi by manager Mauricio Pochettino prior to his debut against Gillingham in the League Cup, that cameo remains Edwards’ only senior appearance for the club.
And the report now states that he has arrived in Italy ahead of a move to the Serie A club.
Edwards spent last season on loan at Dutch club Excelsior but was unable to prevent their relegation from the Eredivisie.
Clean break
Edwards’ deal expires at the end of this season and one feels that Spurs will be glad to get rid of him.
He has done very little to live up to his potential, and even his loan spells have left much to be desired.

A return of two goals and four assists in 28 appearances at Excelsior hardly set the world alight, while he also played a total of six minutes when at Championship club Norwich City.
Allowing him to move on and attempt to recapture the form that saw him billed as one of the country’s most promising young talents makes sense for Spurs.
Time, it feels, is running out for him to become the footballer that many believed he could be.
